I haven't done one of these in a while, so I think I'm long over due. Plus, I've found many a great thing on the Internets today.

First off is a new movie trailer (I have been watching far too many lately). What can I say? I'm a sucker for Hugh Grant movies. He's a guilty pleasure.

This is very big on the Twitter and web. If you haven't seen it, you've been missing out.

Also, if you haven't been watching The Guild, you've been missing out again!

Now, something for your meaty brain, via Boing Boing (again):
Visualizing up to ten dimensions

Something for you monkey brain:
Manhunt finds handcuffed suspect in trunk of Titusville police car
After an hour of searching for suspected burglar Aldophus Martin Hughes Jr., Titusville police found him hiding in the trunk of a patrol car.
The suspect slipped into the trunk of the police car he was in and the cops spent an hour looking for him.

John August has tons of great writing advice up on his website. His latest, Groundhog Day and Unexplained Magic, brought up some interesting things to think about.

Writer Beware Blogs! Victoria Strauss -- Bad Impressions for Good Impressions Audio Books
Wow. I realize it has to be legal on some level, or such places wouldn't get away with it. But, man, that smacks me of illegal somehow.

For their next movie, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Greg Mottola created a website to hold their "while shooting" videos and pictures. Check out What is....Paul? for some great stuff.

That's it. I'm done. Have a great day!

Just some things to look at...

Start Writing Fiction, resource community for fiction writers. This community was originally created for the students of the Open University's 'Start Writing Fiction' Course (A174), however, membership is now open to anyone who is interested in writing fiction.

“Sheet-heads:” The New Nazis - this is an excellent, thought provoking article. I highly recommend reading.

Writers Resources - some great websites I know I read regularly, and I have new ones to follow.

FREAKANGELS: Volume One collection is coming November 2008. I know what I'm asking for my birthday.

You can never read enough Wil Wheaton. You heard me. Never can read him enough.

Dear [info]sadsadmonkey, if you want to rile your little band of fun-ones, show them this little rumor about the up-coming movie. Oh, those darn Romulans!

Hey, [info]guinan, here's some synopsis of the first few episode of True Blood. (Site contains spoilers for other shows, and some cute ads for Chuck that I can't wait for)

MTV can die now. Seriously. Just die. Die. Die.

Okay, I have no idea what this is about (I'm watching the trailer next), but the poster has sold me.

Maybe not the most unbiased review I've ever read, but one I'll trust concerning the up-coming Clone Wars.

The state of our news in this country.

The story had the added relevance that one of the state prison officials had been hired as a consultant to the prison authority in Iraq as the Abu Ghraib debacle was unfolding. There didn't seem to be much doubt about either the newsworthiness or the topicality of the story. Yet at the conclusion of the screening, the senior producer shook his head as though the story had missed the mark widely. "These inmates aren't necessarily sympathetic to our audience," he said. The fact that they had been diagnosed with schizophrenia was unimportant. Worse, he said that as he watched the video of the dying inmate, it didn't seem as if anything was wrong.

"Except that the inmate died," I offered.

"But that's not what it looks like. All you can see is his feet."

"With all those guards on top of him."

"Sure, but he just looks like he's being restrained."

"But," I pleaded, "the man died. That's just a fact. The prison guards shot this footage, and I don't think their idea was to get it on Dateline."

"Look," the producer said sharply, "in an era when most of our audience has seen the Rodney King video, where you can clearly see someone being beaten, this just doesn't hold up."

"Rodney King wasn't a prisoner," I appealed. "He didn't die, and this mentally ill inmate is not auditioning to be the next Rodney King. These are the actual pictures of his death."

"You don't understand our audience."

"I'm not trying to understand our audience," I said. I was getting pretty heated at this point--always a bad idea. "I'm doing a story on the abuse of mentally ill inmates in Connecticut."

"You don't get it," he said, shaking his head.

It's a wonderful article. Everyone wonders why audiences are seeking the truth elsewhere, even in "fake" news shows like The Daily Show.

Well, that was fun. *pppfffftt* I hate porn spammers. Really. Do people need to advertise porn? It seems to me that porn sells itself.

How was your week? Mine's been all over the place - however, two things from Thursday:

1) I participated in one of the funniest gift exchanges at work. A lovely gift box of Amaretto was the first gift opened. I made sure N didn't get it because she wanted to so bad, but I didn't end up with it either. Just when I thought I had it, the original unwrapped snagged it in a slick political move. So, I opened the last gift on the table: three bottles of Bahamas rum. Karma rocks.

2) I moved to my new desk. No more N! HURRAY!

Now, I won't have anything for next week. I'm going to be off training in Atlanta, so I don't know what kind of access I'll have. So, you're on your own until after the holidays! Merry Holidays!

Doom! Death! Disaster! Cell Phones don't give you cancer - then it must be WiFi's fault!

I want to meet the man who will hold this purse for his girlfriend/wife/mistress/hooker in the mall. (Possibly not work safe)

A co-worker sent me this: it's an 8 MB PDF file, but it explains how NASA retrieves the space shuttle's rockets.

This is so awesome, I cannot even begin to say. I must've laughed for a good twenty minutes the first time I saw it.

Penny Arcade references one of last week's Things To Read

I've got to hit the beaches more.

*blinks* A horror soap opera - this I've got to see.

This story has to be true; it's too fucked up to be made up. I mean, seriously, sex.com?

And this story too - FUCKED UP! I expect a movie soon.

A perfectly lovely Holiday Music Mix. Download yours today!

Now, here's the best links my friend's sent me this week:
From [info]sadsadmonkey: Where she found this, I don't want to know. But it's possibly not work safe and you shouldn't be drinking when you click here.

From [info]voided_space: She gave me another site at which I can despair, laugh, cry and snicker.

From [info]fiere: God (and the Devil) bless her little soul. She made a Good Omens Lexicon with her own little hands.

This is for [info]misscoollinda: I know where we're staying when we go to New York next year.

And in closing, it's not too late to have an action figure made of your male loved one. I know I am.

Welcome to the first week of December; I hope your surviving. I don't know about where you live, but the stupidity level doubled here. What is it about this time of year that makes people completely self-centered and retarded until December 25th?

Anyways, I have a great many links for you to read. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and settle in. There's a great many things you need to see.

For starters, here's proof that Dave's still king:

Archaeologists have unearthed what they say are the only existing imperial insignia belonging to Emperor Maxentius — precious objects that were buried to preserve them and keep them from enemies when he was defeated by his rival Constantine. You know, this is the season for discovery, or at least, announcing your discoveries.

All I want for Christmas is Black & Decker's Infrawave Speed Oven.

The Coolest Site I've Found On The Web In A Long, Long Time - a necessary resource for writers, I think.

But if you think there is something new and frightening about children behaving badly, think again. More than 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosopher Plato wrote: "Of all the animals, the boy is the most unmanageable." These days, of course, in an age of sexual emancipation, what is true of boys is equally true of girls.

Not Work Safe! The Pop-up Book of Sex - you need to watch the video about half way down the page! No, you really need to see it! Don't drink anything, though. Not Work Safe!

Three excellent promo videos for Spike TV's 2006 Video Game Awards promos.

Remember, what's the motto here at Things you should've read this week? Anything is made better if LEGO'd.

Things to do in 2007 by Kittenpants

This is for [info]misscoollinda. A photo archive of the beginnings of Walt Disneyland.

Everyone needs to Download Punk.

This is one of the funniest videos running around the web. Hey, [info]guinan, Tude needs to see this!

The Japanese out-weird the rest of the world again and no one's shocked.

Someone in one of those foreign places as too much time on their hands.

The Ethics of Writing in the Digital Age

I'm fairly certain this is a sign that the terrorists are winning.

A rather long, but interesting, essay on social network sites

I've changed my mind. All I want for Christmas is the first season of SNL.

Here's the perfect gift for your geek girlfriend.

Twas the Night Before Christmas, SIMS style (only in SIMS could this be done)

I've already spammed this around, but I feel it needs more spammage.

Here, torture your friends and loved ones with R2-D2 & C3PO singing We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

Now, here's my top three of the week. Just when I thought I had the top one, but kept finding more goodies.

Buffy Season 8 in comic book form hits the stands. Someone should warn all those comic shop owners about Buffy fans.

People with too much time on their hands so rock.
