Defense Department Opposed Franken's Anti-Rape Amendment
I'm an old, old, old, school girl SNL fan, back when Al was a writer. I've been following this dude for about thirty years now, and I'm always interested to see where he's going. But even without him, I would be interested in this story. What he's proposing seems common sense and yet receives criticism. I am stunned.

Plus, the mock website rocks.

SPOILER: Dark Reign Mystery Reveal At The Atomik Level
What can I say? Marvel suckered me in with Dark Reign.

I love Warren Ellis. I do.

So, let me get this straight. If you're Anglican Church has a gay bishop and you all want to become Catholic, it is now cool and groovy with the Holy Roman Catholic Church? Dang.

Nasa's rocket roll-out complete
I can't believe this is a one shot deal.

Keeping Point-and-Click Adventures Alive
I can remember playing "Day of the Tentacle" with my boy and laughing my butt off. We loved playing that game!

Whedon Vs. Shelley: Now It Can Be Told!
Joss Whedon and John Byrne? Holy fuck! I must get me to a comic book shop!

I am so into being spoiled for the movie Thor.

Disney buying Marvel Is everyone as sick of hearing the "Death Knell" as I am? And I haven't been on the Internets today.

Whatever you do, fanboys and girls, don't be rational and listen to those in the loop.

This made me spit my drink. Context is for the weak.

Good Books Don't Have to Be Hard I want to read.

But snark, eschewing work, adopts the mere manner of wit, as if manner were enough. I haven't had a chance to finish reading this, but I like the beginning so far. I have been against the "snark for snark sake" that seems to have taken over every forum and community on the Internets. Everyone wants to be Oscar Wilde. Unfortunately, there was only one Oscar Wilde.

I haven't done this in a while....

As I had the knife poised over the jugular of my neck, I picked up the printed page of my fourth story in my Project 365 to realize something: the story’s edge was being cut off when printed. No, I had not missed words when I posted it to the web. My stories were not mangled bits of countenances that make little no sense. My worst nightmare wasn’t coming true. Oh, Thank God.

I did learn the difference between writing and editing. Shifting gears between the two isn’t easy for me. I will need to work on that. My writing will only improve if I am able to improve as an editor.

So, I saw The Watchmen today. I find it hard to say whether or not it is a good movie. Since the story is so closely tied to the comics/graphic novel, I cannot separate the two. And since the original source material is quite the symbol in my life (we can discuss that later), I cannot be unbiased in my critique. I cannot say if the movie in and of itself stands on its own legs since I know so much of the comic/graphic novel. My brain filled in what the movie may have missed; therefore, for someone who does not know the original material may find the movie disjointed or boring.

I will say this to the row of twenty-something young men that sat behind me: please go out and get some cock. Every time a bare ass or Dr. Manhattan’s blue dick showed up on the screen, they all giggled. My seventeen year old son didn’t. However, after the movie was over and we discussed the row of closeted young men, he announced that he had made jokes with his friends: smurf meat. I told him John Stewart made jokes about the “blue pipe,” so it was okay. But to giggle every time a bum appeared on screen was not only distracting but disturbing for men their age.

I could tell when a network executive gave a note about “not getting something.” I was easily irritated by the over-explaining. Also, I wanted more discord between Laurie and her mother shown so the ending between them had more of an impact (though the lack of impact may be from knowing of the ending). I found much of it too pretty to look at (as I suspected it would), but I expected as much from Hollywood.

It did remain true to certain important themes from the original source material, but so many couldn’t be included because it was a film (simply not enough time). While I enjoyed watching (though I found the director’s over-use of the “slow down” annoying over time), I still wish it wasn’t made. The Watchmen remains too big for the screen. Like a remake of Casablanca, it should not have been done.

...but I'm stumbling across a lot of goodness on the web this morning.

20 (More) Strange and Exotic Endangered Species - these are not photoshopped at all. Yes, you'll freak out. Bugophobic people probably shouldn't look.

Alternate Currency - xkcd strikes again.

Two tee shirts, a party invitation and talking fish - Neil Gaiman shows off shirts for CBLDF. I want the first one badly, though the Hellboy one isn't bad. Also, they are reissuing the Vertigo Tarot deck for The Sandman anniversary. Yes, I want.

If you're not following Kawaii Not on LJ, you're missing out.

If Christmas Presents Were Honest by Holy Taco

Mercenaries, Sonic Blasters No Match for Pirates - if you build a better mousetrap, you only make a smarter mouse.

Psychopaths have an eye for the underdog - kind of a scary office environment experiment

You know how they have soap opera update sites, to keep fans up-to-date on what went down should they miss their shows.

Is there anything like that for comics?

Thanks.

People in the Pentagon spend too much time watching television and not enough time in the real world. Seriously, do we have to review what the terrorists did on 9/11? It was so low tech. It's how they got away with it. Stop looking for terrorists attacks in World of Warcraft and start learning Arabic.

I want this book: How to Ditch Your Fairy.

Just when you think you cannot love Bruce Campbell any more...

The Ultimate Superhero Rock Band? Oh, I so don't think so.

Go! Read! Now!

I agree. Tru Blood is going to be a watcher. Heck, Hubby was hooked last night. "They're going to end it there?"
And I would love to see The Fly as a musical. OMG.
"Updike has penned a sequel to The Witches of Eastwick." YES!
I cannot believe they stuck Clone Wars in there. What is wrong with them? But then again, they put Twilight up there. Sparkling vampires...I can never comment because all the smart-ass comments jam my brain trying to get out.
"The work: Adams' 2005 opera Doctor Atomic, about the days leading up to the fateful test of the first atomic bomb in New Mexico in 1945." I would so go to the opera.

Just some things to look at...

And I saved the best for last, because Best Week Ever is the best. The Great Debaters 2: Rise Of The Sensitive Ponytail Man
